NODA Theatre Talk

We want to hear from you

NODA is piloting a regional publication in NODA East called NODA Theatre Talk. The aim is to improve content of regional publications and reduce costs. NODA Theatre Talk is a proposal to provide a regional publication to members with content that really puts them in the spotlight. Content will consist of the latest news, celebratory stories, important events, fun trivia and show fixtures. NODA East show reports are all online therefore you won't find them featured in the pilot.
Let us know what you think by completing the online feedback form, and you could even win a theatre voucher.

Working with Children in the Theatre

If you work with children in the theatre then you need the new NODA Master Class Series CD ‘Working with Children in the Theatre’. The CD is free to all NODA members and it contains extensive information on this topical subject.

The CD contains a 60 minute audio recording of a discussion which features Terry Drury, Chairman of the NNCEE (The National Network for Children in Entertainment & Employment), includes society representatives and is chaired by John Warburton, Councillor for NODA East.

The discussion gives a fascinating insight into key issues, common concerns and real life examples of experiences with local councils on the variences of interpretation of legislation experienced across the country. The discussion is preceeded by a workshop presented by Dr Keith Gladstone which sets the scene for the forum.

Also on the CD are a number of recently updated factsheets including one covering the new ISA / Vetting & Barring Scheme. The CD can be played on any standard CD player or PC system. (A PC system will be required to access the fact sheets)

Channel 69 Wireless Mic Systems

Old frequencies used for wireless microphones in the UK are to be cleared and new frequencies have been allocated. Old equipment can’t simply be retuned as the new frequencies are too far away from the old ones. Sound Hire is offering a trade in for any complete channel 69 wireless mic equipment when you purchase new equipment on channel 38. This offer is open to any make and model of wireless mic equipment operating on channel 69 and there is no limit to the number of systems you can trade in, as long as they are all in working order. Sound Hire hopes that this will be of great financial benefit to NODA members.

For more information please contact Joe at Sound Hire.

Plays and Playwrights
Many of you who enjoyed Maureen Hughes’ first book, The Pocket Guide to Musicals, asked to be informed upon the publication of her second, The Pocket Guide to Plays and Playwrights. This book is now in High Street shops and on all the usual online sites. Like the first, this book has also been added to the official reading list of several professional colleges as well as numerous 6th form colleges and schools; both have also been adopted as the official books of many musical and dramatic societies.

Same play, same date - only 75 years later!

News from Amateur Players of Sherbourne

It was too much of a coincidence for the Amateur Players of Sherbourne to ignore. Checking through As It Was, a memoir of the early years of the society, revealed the opening date of the first play they ever performed was 19 November in 1934, exactly the same date they open this November. Further more, the play all those years ago was Tons of Money by Will Allen and Valentine, so, to mark their 75th anniversary the Players have suitably chosen Tons of Money.
